SOUTH DEVON COLLEGE students are using an inaugural health and fitness show event at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay to give its students some valuable work experience.

This Health Show has been designed to coincide with the most popular time of year for people to make resolutions, which are so often centred around health and fitness. College sports students and instructors will be supporting the show with exercise and fitness classes that include zumba, fitball, boxercise, dance, yoga, palates and circuits. College complementary therapy students will be showcasing their massage and reflexology skills, whilst beauty therapy students will be offering an array of beauty and nail treatments. Catering students will be providing live healthy eating cooking demonstrations to show how food can be quick, easy and simple to make, yet still very healthy, and travel and tourism students will be ushering on the day and taking charge of ticketing.

“It’s a great time to be involved in health and fitness, with everyone in ‘new year, new you’ mode,” said Lynn Squire, Department Tutor for Sport at South Devon College, “We have plenty of students on board to help support the show and they are all excited to be able to showcase their skills and hopefully help people get healthy both mentally and physically.”

“It’s fantastic to have South Devon College on board and there are a lot of students and College staff helping out on Saturday,” said event organiser Tim Barrs, “We’ve had a very good response from businesses and exhibitors, plus a great deal of interest locally. We’re all really looking forward to it.”

There are currently almost 50 businesses on the exhibitor list which are dedicated to all aspects of the health and fitness industry including spas, gyms, fit camps, chiropractors, hypnotherapists and holistic clinics. There will also be a number of free demonstrations which are included within the show entry, such as zumba, yogalates, circuit training as well as seminars including beating depression, quit smoking and reflexology.
